Enhancing the lives of older adults through evidence-based practice.

What is Gerontology?

The Gerontology Program is housed in the Department of Social Work which is part of the School of Health and Human Sciences at UNC Greensboro. Gerontology is the interdisciplinary study of aging and older adults, examining the biological, psychological, and social changes that occur throughout the aging process. More importantly, Gerontology is the application of this comprehensive and integrated knowledge to policies and programs. The Gerontology Program prepares students to translate research and theory into practical solutions that meet the evolving needs of older adults and their families. Graduates are equipped for leadership positions with an emphasis on coordination and administration of services.
